Senate votes against measure to maintain Bush offshore drilling policy

The Senate decided in a 56-42 vote to block a Republican bid to retain a proposal made during President George W. Bush's tenure that would permit oil and gas drilling along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., advanced the measure, which would have prevented the Obama administration from implementing its own policy on offshore drilling.
