Las Vegas firm brings the rubber to the road

Used tires could be usefully recycled by grinding them up and using them instead of asphalt to pave highways, according to officials from Phoenix Materials Technologies. The Las Vegas company has developed rubber road-paving pellets that need heating only when they're ready to be used -- unlike asphalt, which needs to be heated continuously. Rubber roads would also be safer, quieter and longer lasting, officials say.
