Powdered infant formula is recalled due to contamination

Abbott Laboratories has initiated a voluntary recall of millions of cans and plastic containers of its Similac baby formula in powdered form, after beetles were detected in the product and in a Michigan factory where it is produced. "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has determined that while the formula containing these beetles poses no immediate health risk, there is a possibility that infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat," the company said.
