SEC will consider restrictions for high-frequency trading

Mary Schapiro, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, said the agency plans to consider whether high-frequency traders should be subjected to restrictions. "High-frequency trading firms are subject to very little in the way of obligations," Schapiro said. "We will consider carefully whether these firms should be subject to an appropriate regulatory structure governing key aspects of their market behavior, including quoting and trading strategies."
