Ill. district takes "student-focused" approach to special education

A more formal co-teaching arrangement at Dundee Middle School in Illinois is part of a district plan to adopt a new, "student-focused" approach to special education, in response to a recent state audit. The district has also hired specialists with expertise in specific disabilities, implemented more professional development on co-teaching for core-subject and special-education teachers, and extended the practice of co-teaching, used in middle and high schools, to elementary schools as well.
