Tech giants present looming threat to content providers

Large technology firms are making the move into content creation and distribution in an effort to solidify their customer bases, a trend that could make it harder for established players, including Netflix and Pandora, to compete. Analysts say companies such as Microsoft, Apple and Amazon aren't necessarily seeking large profits by inserting themselves into the market for services such as music streaming and local search, but are increasingly recognizing the power of content as a value-added service to supplement their primary offerings.
