Dark chocolate demand sends prices higher

An improving economy and a new understanding of its health benefits are fueling demand for dark chocolate, but a supply shortfall has caused cocoa prices to rise 21% so far this quarter. "There's a general trend toward the dark chocolate. The benefit of having the high cocoa content is having a lower sugar content and that's what would appeal to calorie-counters," said Nicholas Fereday, an analyst at Rabobank.
