Fifth-grade teachers in Texas flip math lessons with weekly videos

Hallsville, Texas, fifth-grade teachers Nona Meissner and Rachel Hilchey are flipping some math lessons for the first time this year by recording 5-minute weekly videos -- in which they sometimes tell jokes, sing and rap their lessons -- and posting them on their own YouTube channels. Besides offering more help with math, the recordings give students who are ill a way to keep up with lessons and allow parents, who receive e-mails when new videos are posted, to see what their children are learning in school. In some cases, seeing another teacher's take on a lesson helps as well, they said.
