House may consider Internet sales tax legislation lacking small-business exemption

The House of Representatives is gearing up to discuss legislation that could force companies, no matter how small, to collect sales tax for online orders. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte recently released a set of principles to steer discussion of the legislation that states "laws should be so simple and compliance so inexpensive and reliable as to render a small business exemption unnecessary."
