Initiative sends AP enrollment soaring in La. district

Some schools in Jefferson Parish, La., have increased participation in Advanced Placement courses through a new partnership with the nonprofit Mass Insight. Under the program, teachers receive professional development in teaching AP classes, offer Saturday help sessions for students and give students access to additional tutoring. Now that more students are stepping up to the challenge of AP courses -- with one school increasing from 47 students enrolled last year to 283 this year, officials say the goal is to increase AP exam scores.
