Maternal obesity increases diabetes, hypertension risk, study shows

Pregnant women who were obese were more likely than their healthier peers to develop essential and pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes, a study in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology indicated. Researchers also found women who were underweight, overweight or obese had increased hospital admissions and higher medical expenses compared with pregnant women of normal weight.
