Maternal obesity raises diabetes, hypertension risk, study shows

Women with maternal obesity were more likely than their healthier peers to develop essential and pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes, a study in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology indicated. Researchers also found women who were underweight, overweight or obese had higher maternity expenses compared with those of normal weight.
