Nutritionists give tips for eating healthy at ethnic restaurants

Nutrition experts say careful ordering, mindful eating and asking for substitutions all can help curb calories in restaurant meals, but they also have specific tips when ordering international or ethnic foods. Registered dietitian Martha McKittrick says that when ordering Italian cuisine, opt for mixed seafood in a red sauce over spinach instead of pasta. RD Wendy Jo Peterson recommends skipping the bobo drinks when eating at a Vietnamese restaurant, and adding extra vegetables and drinking the broth when ordering pho.
