Snake-like robot puts eyes on out-of-the-way places

A segmented, 2-inch-wide robot can find its way through pipelines at nuclear plants, a capability with implications for other industries, its developers believe. The camera-toting device, called Max, replaces borescopes with considerably less maneuverability. The algorithms developed to help Max quickly find its way around could be used to reduce the time needed to program robots for complex tasks in other fields.
