Study IDs infectious endocarditis risk in pediatric congenital heart disease

Researchers from the University of Montreal followed 34,279 children with congenital heart disease since birth, and found 6.1 cases of infectious endocarditis for every 1,000 children. Cyanotic CHD, endocardial cushion defects, and left-sided lesions were associated with a greater risk of infectious endocarditis compared with atrial septal defects, according to the study published in the journal Circulation.
