Chicago teachers to get higher salaries in proposed contract

City school officials and the Chicago Teachers Union yesterday announced a tentative contract agreement providing teachers 4% annual pay raises over the next five years. Schools Superintendent Arne Duncan said the agreement's cost, estimated to be $1 billion, is worth the stability it will bring to the district.
