Oregon pilot program puts NPs in nursing home

Trillium Community Health Plans and South Hills Rehabilitation Center in Eugene, Ore., are working together in a pilot program that puts nurse practitioners on-site at the nursing home. The idea is to ease the pressure on physicians to make nursing home rounds and reduce trips to the hospital. Officials say early indications are that the number of hospitalizations is decreasing and health care problems among residents are being diagnosed earlier.
