Economy, credit concerns dampen diversity recruitment

The difficult economic climate is forcing businesses to focus on their bottom line, and not on diversity initiatives. Franchisors have also cut back on minority recruitment, a move that may cost them, as ethnic minorities are expected to comprise 54% of the U.S. population by 2050, per Census data. "Until credit begins to flow, [the number of] minorities entering franchising will remain stagnant," said Miriam Brewer, director of diversity of the International Franchise Association's Educational Foundation.
