Falling GDP adds pressure to Ireland's budget

A surprise contraction of Ireland's economy is increasing fiscal stress on the government, which is already implementing a harsh austerity program. Gross domestic product in the second quarter dropped 1.2% from the first quarter. Finance Minister Brian Lenihan said the economy is stabilizing, not sliding into a double-dip recession.
