Railroads push back against a plan for heavier trucks

The railroad industry has come out against an Obama administration proposal to make permanent two pilot programs permitting heavier trucks on highways. The proposal would cover Maine and Vermont only, but the Association of American Railroads said permitting heavier weights there "could provide impetus to trucking interests in the Northeast and along the East Coast to lift the federal truck weight ban elsewhere."
