Climb in U.S. home prices slows as consumer confidence ebbs

The rate of gain in U.S. urban home prices slowed in July, adding to evidence of a slowing economy. The S&P/Case-Shiller composite index of 20 metropolitan areas was up 0.6% after a 0.9% gain in June. Separately, The Conference Board reported that its index of consumer confidence has slipped to 79.7 this month from 81.8 in August.
