FSOC ruling on Prudential could have consequences for other firms

The decision by the Financial Stability Oversight Council to designate Prudential Insurance a systemically important financial institution could end up bringing many other U.S. insurers and reinsurers under intensified regulatory supervision, writes Elizabeth Festa. They could end up under a form of consolidated regulation by the Federal Reserve Board, she notes.
