La. governor welcomes selection of parish for possible Shell gas plant

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's office said Royal Dutch Shell has chosen a site in Ascension Parish where it might build a $12.5 billion natural gas facility. The plant -- for which plans are not final -- would convert gas into jet fuel, diesel and other liquids and would generate a total of 4,640 direct and indirect jobs and have an economic impact of $77.6 billion during construction and the first 15 years of operation. "Today's announcement is a historic new opportunity for Shell to potentially expand its manufacturing operations onshore in a world-class, gas-to-liquids facility in Ascension Parish on the Mississippi River," Jindal said.
