N.Y. city agencies aid university with "urban informatics"

The New York University Center for Urban Science and Progress has opened with its first class, with students studying the way systems function in a city. CUSP has public and private partners and works with 13 New York City agencies. Students in the program, which features civil engineers, computer scientists and other specialists, are focusing on "urban informatics" -- use of information mined from Big Data -- to improve the operation and planning of cities.
