School cafeterias increasingly go cashless

More school cafeterias nationwide are becoming high-tech as they install systems that accept electronic payments using a PIN or an ID card. Chicago Public Schools is installing one such system this year and expects it to help the district curb an estimated $1.5 million in uncollected meal charges accrued annually. Officials say the electronic-payment systems also improve efficiency and keep cafeteria lines moving faster.
