Shale gas is "game changer" for petrochemical industry in North America

The U.S. petrochemical industry is reaping the advantages of cheap shale natural gas, with seven new crackers planned in the U.S. by Dow Chemical, Sasol, Chevron Phillips Chemical and others, said ICIS Chemical Business editor Joseph Chang. Many should be completed by 2017, he noted. As chemical manufacturers realize the benefits of this "game changer," they may also see competition for shale gas from other sectors, such as transportation, utilities and natural gas exports, according to this analysis.
