A prediction model using eight variables determined the mortality and survival of extremely premature babies on the first day of admission to neonatal intensive care units, according to a Canadian study in the journal Pediatrics. Data from the Canadian Neonatal Network database involving 6,106 NICU patients showed that 10% died and 90% survived, including 37% without morbidity, 32% with mild morbidity, and 21% with severe morbidity.
