Teachers, scholars to develop lesson plans examining World War I

A dozen middle- and high-school teachers from Virginia and North Carolina have been chosen to participate in a partnership with the American Battle Monuments Commission and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Virginia Tech to create lesson plans that will focus on the historical legacy of World War I and the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial in Verdun, France. "We want to create a curriculum, but we also want to transform teachers," said Andy Mink, executive director of LEARN NC, the professional-development center at the school of education at UNC-Chapel Hill.
