Private tutors cater to preschool set

Hoping to give their children a leg up on admissions to elite preschools and kindergartens -- or simply a better academic foundation -- many parents are hiring tutors for their 3- to 5-year-old children. Some early-learning experts say such tutoring can deprive very young children of the time they need for play and the development of their problem-solving and thinking skills.
