With settlement, San Joaquin river restoration begins

The settlement of an 18-year dispute over the operation of the Friant Dam in California will allow work to begin on a 10-year plan to restore the continuous flow to the San Joaquin River. The project could make the river -- the state's second largest -- open to water transport and allow it to again sustain chinook salmon and other fish.
