Study: Additive can extend bird flu vaccine

U.S. scientists say they have been able to prompt an effective immune response to an avian flu vaccine using a fourth of the normal dosage by adding a chemical mixture to it. The researchers used inactivated H9N2 flu vaccines in their study, but they suggested adjuvants also could be used to extend the vaccine supply against the H5N1 strain in the event of a pandemic.
