New Haven school construction costs down, city's share up

The overall cost of a citywide school construction program in New Haven, Conn., should decline from $1.5 billion to $1.463 billion, but the city's share is expected to increase from $255 million to $276 million, according to officials discussing a construction plan. The program would include 47 school building projects, and the city is expected to pay more due to issues including rising construction costs and a tougher state policy on what is accepted for reimbursement.
