Fewer hospitals make Leapfrog's Top Hospitals list for 2008

Fewer hospitals made the Leapfrog Group's list of Top Hospitals this year, mainly due to added patient-safety reporting requirements. Twenty-six hospitals and seven children's hospitals made the grade after Leapfrog added a requirement that facilities not only have a computerized physician order entry system but that they test it using Leapfrog's evaluation tool. Other added requirements include participating in other public reporting programs, adhering to Leapfrog's "Never Events" policy, and efficient use of resources for key diseases and interventions.
