Study: Seniors choose generics when paying out of pocket

Research published by Medco Health Solutions found that seniors opt for generic drugs when they are spending out of pocket, but they choose the costlier branded originals when Medicare is paying. The data also show that some patients prefer medicines from the original manufacturer, possibly because they "believe brand-name drugs work better than generics," an official with the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation said.
