C-11 PiB PET helps forecast progression to Alzheimer's disease

A study involving 31 subjects with mild cognitive impairment found that PET with carbon-11-labeled Pittsburgh Compound B can provide prognostic data on the increased risk of progressing to Alzheimer's disease among the subjects that showed increased brain amyloid accumulation. The researchers are conducting further studies involving the subjects. "The importance of these findings will greatly increase if antiamyloid strategies prove effective treatment in Alzheimer's disease," a researcher said.
