The $4.2 billion Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement tunnel was recently nominated for "Engineering Project of the Year" by the North American Strategic Infrastructure Forum. The Washington State Department of Transportation recently put out a request for qualifications for the project. The tunnel has faced some opposition from a mayoral candidate who says it is too expensive, but city officials say the project, which will create 4,000 jobs, will move ahead. The tunnel was also nominated for the "Job Creation Project of the Year" award.
