Users dialing up smartphones to access social nets, research shows

The use of smartphones for social networking increased from 6.4 million unique users in July 2008, to 18.3 million users for the same month this year, Nielsen Co. is reporting. Social nets represented nearly one-third of smartphone usage for that period, with the most popular site, Facebook, accounting for twice the usage of its nearest rival, MySpace, according to Nielsen.
