Obese people spend more years dealing with diabetes

The overall estimated diabetes-free life in the U.S. decreased by 1.5 years, and the risk of developing diabetes increased by almost 50% in 18-year-old women and nearly doubled in men of the same age, a study found. Experts said obese individuals were at greater risk, with diabetes-free life down by 5.6 years in men and 2.5 years in women. The findings appear in Diabetes Care.
