The American College of Physicians issued new guidelines urging providers to encourage weight loss in obese patients with obstructive sleep apnea and to recommend continuous positive airway pressure as initial treatment for all OSA patients. The guidelines, published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine, did not recommend the use of surgery and pharmaceutical therapy for sleep apnea patients.
