Hospitals find demand is high for nurse informaticists

Medical facilities in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia are working to develop strategies for hiring and keeping nurse informatics specialists. The discipline, which combines nursing expertise with IT skills to boost care quality, is one of the fastest growing specialties in nursing. "The great news for nurse [informaticists] is that they have so many career tracks they can take. The bad news for hospitals is they have so many good avenues to take in going away," MedStar Washington Hospital Center recruitment official Dennis Hoban said.
