Instructional coach and principal Ben Johnson describes in this blog post how he uses relationship-building -- as well as distraction -- to manage a middle-school Spanish class. For instance, Johnson shares mini-lessons he uses such as telling jokes in Spanish to help distract and redirect students when they go off-topic from their main task. "I have always believed that the best discipline plan is to have a good lesson plan, but for middle schools students, you have to have plan A, B and distraction lesson Z," he writes.
