Shutdown could halt payments to private sector

A government shutdown would do more than stall federal operations. It also would affect a vast web of private firms that supply the federal government with goods and services and that could find their payments put on hold. The Aerospace Industries Association warned a shutdown would "harm our economy unnecessarily when it is only slowly recovering."
