The global market for microelectromechanical system devices is forecast to grow from $9 billion this year to more than $12 billion in three years, outstripping growth in the worldwide semiconductor industry, according to IHS iSuppli. R. Colin Johnson surveys a dozen MEMS products that are taking the technology beyond their current applications in automotive vehicles and mobile electronics.
