Detroit teachers protest governor's charter schools plan

Teachers rallied at the state Capitol yesterday to protest a plan by Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm to create more than 15 new charter schools in the city, part of a 150-school expansion statewide over the next 10 years. The governor has withdrawn from further negotiations on the proposal, saying it is up to lawmakers to prepare a bill she can sign.
