Canadian National Railway buys section of U.S. Steel railroad

Transtar, a subsidiary of U.S. Steel, is selling a major portion of its Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway Co. to Canadian National Railway Co. for $300 million. Under the deal, which is subject to regulatory review, Transtar will keep railroad assets, equipment and employees that support its Gary Work site in Indiana and the steelmaking operations of U.S. Steel, and Transtar's remaining operations will become Gary Railway.
