Column: Bank broker's advice for Carnival found lacking

A broker at Deutsche Bank said that if oil remains above $100 a barrel, then the cruise industry should rethink its strategy. Specifically, the broker said, "Carnival needs to shift to a returns-driven philosophy, where the group raises cruise prices and reduces commissions." David Eisen of Travel Agent argues that Carnival has consistently supported travel agents and that it would be premature for Carnival to make such a move. "The travel agent community is the backbone of the cruise industry and will stay so for years to come," Eisen writes.
