Calif. regulators approve 33% renewable-energy goal by 2020

The California Air Resources Board on Thursday approved a plan to set the state's renewable-energy goal to 33% by 2020, up from a target of 20% by this year. The new target is more realistic, industry insiders said, but meeting it would require state regulators to process permits faster and the government to boost aid for plant financing. "We're going to need all the tools in the toolbox to meet that [target]," said Laura Genao, an executive at Southern California Edison.
