Bipartisan deal would prevent U.S. shutdown, Senate leaders say

U.S. Senate leaders said they reached a compromise that would prevent a government shutdown after spending authority expires Friday. The bipartisan deal was approved 79-12. The measure would give Democrats less disaster-relief money than sought, and Republicans would end up with fewer spending cuts than demanded.
