Groups fight rabies worldwide as disease claims 100 children per day

Some 100 children die daily from rabies, mostly due to families' inability to pay for a vaccine. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 55,000 people die from rabies every year, and India has the highest death rate in Asian countries, with about 20,000 annually. As World Rabies Day approaches on Wednesday, groups working to promote vaccination also are advising tourists of the potential risks in nations where the disease is common among dogs.
