NEA president criticizes performance pay, testing

Performance pay for teachers is short-sighted, and tests are ineffective measures of student and teachers' achievement, says National Education Association President Dennis Van Roekel. In this interview, he says an ongoing study by the Gates Foundation will show that tests are not the best measure of teacher effectiveness. Rather, he says, research has shown that multiple measures should be used to determine teacher quality.
